Srinagar, Mar 29 (KNO): In a symbolic gesture, Peoples Conference on Monday sent out a message that the party is gaining pan- Kashmir foothold and is no longer restricted to its pocket borough of north Kashmir.
The three politicians who joined the party are from three different parts of Kashmir. While the three-time lawmaker Syed Basharat Bukhari is from north Kashmir, Peerzada Mansoor and Khursheed Alam respectively hail from south and central Kashmir.
“We are expecting that more prominent faces from North, South and Central Kashmir will join us in the coming weeks,” a PC leader told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Alam is the second former lawmaker from Srinagar to join PC after 2018. Abid Ansari, who was MLA in the last Assembly from Zadibal segment, had joined PC after dissolution of J&K Legislative Assembly.
According to observers, PC’s superb performance in the last DDC polls made it a force to reckon in Kashmir. “The PC emerged as the single largest party in two districts of north Kashmir by winning five and three seats in Kupwara and Baramulla districts, respectively. The PC performed better than all other parties when it comes to strike rate. This is why politicians are joining it,” they said, adding that PC is emerging as the main challenge to NC on the political turf of Kashmir.
A PC leader said that Sajad Gani Lone’s friendly relations with MLAs during his stint as minister has also played a key role in attracting politicians from different parties towards PC.
“PC has a different work culture. Here everyone feels that he is an equal stakeholder, “he said.
It is worthwhile to mention that veteran politician and former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig had also joined the party last week—(KNO)
